I'm Coming But I May Not Use The Front Door, 2019

Cotton fabric, 40 meters

The over 40 meters of knotted fabric hung down the outside facade of the Helmhaus Museum for almost two months, as one of Shirt's new works in the group show "Of Color". Despite initial safety concerns concerning the possibility of the window not being able to be locked properly––and several confused inquiries from the public during the exhibition, including that of a visit from Zurich police one day asking if the museum had been broken into––the installation went on without a hitch in place for the duration of the show. Inside the knotted white fabric extended across the main gallery and was tied to a furnace. The artist described the work as "getting in somehow, and creating a way kids after me can make it in."
