Made in 2016, the work on wood was the first known instance the rapper appropriated the John Baldessari painting from 1971, modifying the famous sentence to end with "rap" instead of the original phrasing "I will not make any more boring art." Shirt's work duplicates John's original handwriting, albeit much larger, constructing the forged word "rap" with letters from the word "art."
